University of Haifa

University of Haifa - Professor Dalia Sachs is a “feminist” whose concern for women is selective

Unfortunately, like many radical leftist academics in Israel, this woman, whose expertise is in a form of therapy in which patients are encouraged to engage in vocational tasks or expressive activities, such as art or dance, usually in a social setting, fancies herself a research sociologist on the state of women in Israel and somehow ties it all in with the Security Fence and support for the goals of Israel’s enemies.

University of Haifa - Who needs Shakespeare?

Here is what they are teaching in the English Department at the University of Haifa (guest lecturer from Tel Aviv University):

'The Israeli queer activist group "Black Laundry" emerged in 2001 following the outbreak of the second Intifada. Black Laundry effected a two-fold shift in Israeli LGBT politics - both in its move from identity politics narrowly defined (i.e. a politics focused solely on the interests of the LGBT community) to a politics of identification concerned with the occupation as well as with other types of oppression...'

University of Haifa -  Professor Avraham Oz (Dept. of General Studies) - The Lizard of Oz - encourages fellow academics to hate Israel

.."[We want to] express our appreciation and support for those of our students and lecturers who refuse to serve as soldiers in the occupied territories. Such service too often involves carrying out orders that have no place in a democratic society founded on the sanctity of human life." Oz, who probably never served in the Territories, once wrote, "The average Israeli kids go to the army and turn [into] sadistic animals!" (but they sure don't pass out candy or dance in the street when Arab terrorists are killed, or parade with machineguns). Oz is also quoted as saying "The repressive policies of my country against the Palestinian population is appalling, racist, sometimes horrifying in its cruelty, and often having crossed the boundaries of war crimes...."

Ah, yes, Israel is guilty of war crimes, another trope of the PA propaganda ministries where maybe the Wizard Named Oz really wants to practice his literary skills. And, of course, Israel is responsible for Arab terrorism against itself: "A gigantic army tramples over a small nation. Soldiers performing mass arrests, scaring little children, humiliating their parents, fostering a new generation of suicide bombers, and ensuring the continuation of the conflict for posterity." (note: the italicized terms are all used in PA propaganda despite no compelling evidence there is any truth to it other than constant repetition in the Meida. There also is no Palestinian “nation” yet, due to Arab terrorism and Israel is the size of a postage stamp compared to the Arab world.)

University of Haifa - Ilan Gur-Zeev (Dept. of Education) thinks Israel is colonialist and phalocentric

Ilan Gur-Zeev wrote this on Segel-Plus list May 29, 2008:

'In light of the relations between current postmodern rhetorical, psychic, philosophical and political trends and its articulation within postcolonialist frameworks it is a challenge well beyond the signification of "degrees" of "old" anti-Semitic "influences" or "degrees" of Israeli manipulations of anti-Semitic attacks as a gate for Israeli escape from responsibility and self-awareness. ... . In boycotting Israeli academia, therefore, you are closer to struggling the Lutziferian power, or, the essence of colonialism, namely, the quest to overcome heterogeneity, diversity, otherness and the quest for violent "consensus", "truth", and (American like) "peace" that is conditioned by so much suffering of the marginalized, silenced ones and all "others" to the Judeo-Christian/phalocentrist colonialism that "America"/Israel serve today as its most violent agent.

Boycotting Israeli academia, therefore, must overcome the facts of what really happened in the Teddy Kats affair or in "Jenin, Jenin" and so forth, since it is a moral and psychic drive to overcome this world of facts, this triumph of the universalization of Jewish essence - AVODA KODESH that many academics, NGO activist and so many transformative-oriented frustrated soles are committed to....'

University of Haifa - Benjamin Beit-Hallahmi (Dept. of Psychology) claims that Israel supported oppressive regimes to divert attention away from "colonialism of Arab lands"

Benjamin Beit-Hallahmi is Professor of Psychology at the University of Haifa and has written a series of books and articles painting Israel as an evil imperialist militarist society. Compared to most other anti-Israel Israeli academics, Beit-Hallahmi has produced academic papers in his field and has published research and books beyond works sponsored or paid for by the PLO or European Union. His specialty is in the study of cults.

Hallahmi's book, "The Israeli Connection: Who Israel Arms and Why,” is in fact a conspiracy theory in which Israel allegedly sold arms to Central America and South Africa, as well as to the Shah's Iran wherein Beit-Hallahmi suggests Israel, as an oppressive colonialist enterprise, sought to maintain colonization in those other parts of the world as a way to protect its own colonialism of Arab lands.

Israeli Academics threaten the future of the Israeli State

A list of Anti-Israel statements and actions are laid out in the following article.

Among those mentioned are Haifa University politics professor Ilan Pappe, who is quoted saying:

  • “I want people to boycott Israeli institutes.”

  • “I think the de-Zionisation of Israel is a pre-condition for peace; I have no doubt about that.”

and Ben-Gurion University politics lecturer Neve Gordon who went to Ramallah in February 2002 and clasped hands with Yasser Arafat.

Haifa University - Partial Holocaust Denial on University of Haifa Chat List

The ALEF list is a list for outright anti-Semites, cheerleaders for terrorism, and Neo-Nazis, operating through the University of Haifa computer and under its auspices as a university chat list. The 'dialogue' concerning the Holocaust began when one Shraga Elam, an ex-Israel best known for his lavish praise for David Irving, claimed that 'at most' 5.1 million Jews were murdered by the Nazis during World War II. This was supposed to be based on an estimate of the world Jewish population posted on a Hebrew University web site by HU's demographer Prof. Sergio DellaPergola here.

There it says that there were 11 million Jews world wide (elsewhere it says 11.4) after World War II and 16.5 before the war in the entire world.

Elam and his ilk then claim that 'at most' 5.1 million Jews were murdered, and the 'Six Million' number is Zionist propaganda. Elam was then joined on the ALEF list by Stalinist British anti-Semite Tony Greenstein and others (including a professor of psychology from Haifa University), who agreed.

This is all familiar stuff taken from Neo-Nazi and Holocaust Denial web sites, who make similar 'statistical arguments.'

University of Haifa - Avraham Oz (Dept. of Theater) writes to his ALEF colleagues on March 12, 2008:

Dear friends,

This message was posted last night to the faculty circuit of the University of Haifa by the notorious Steven Plaut, a  Professor of Business Administration at the University, who has recently resorted to energetic political activism on the circuit, having reduced for some reason his regular contribution to "web site", in which he urged his readers to send hate mails to a group of Israeli dissenting university professors, providing our addresses. Do open the link below: it speaks for itself. You may be relieved to know I have immediately been summoned to the Dean. Let's see what happens.

For better days,

Your mailman

Columnist Steven Shamrak denounced "self-hate, disloyalty to their own country and self-destructiveness" by Israeli Academics:

'It is astonishing what is happening on the political front in Israel's universities. The level of self-hate, disloyalty to their own country and self-destructiveness is unprecedented:

'At the Tel Aviv University: Gadi Algazi, a history professor, stated: "Commercial and political exploitation of lands stolen by Israel." I wonder where he got his qualification from? Professor and Chair of the Department of Philosophy, Anat Biletzki claims that she is working for the human rights of the Palestinians but completely ignores the Jewish right for land and Israel's right to exist and requirements for self-defence.

'At the University of Haifa: Professor of Psychology Benjamin Beit-Hallahmi, in addition to his pro-Arab views, proclaimed that the rights to free speech, freedom of association and freedom of religion do not exist in Israel. In this case, why is he is not in jail? Could he tell us how many Arab or Muslim organizations he knows that are able to take similar anti-government statements in their own countries?'

Technion, University of Haifa, and Hebrew University - For Professors Jacob and Tamar Katriel and their children, bashing Israel is a family affair - by Lee Kaplan

"Jacob Katriel is in fact a Stalinist communist ideologue who has been a central figure in Israel’s communist party that is mostly dominated by Arab-Israeli members who are irredentists against Israel’s Jews. If it has anything to do with smearing the Jewish state, Katriel will do it while reaping the rewards of his tenured retirement sinecure paid for by the Israeli taxpayer and donors to Israeli universities. His wife and children are equally close allies in damning Israel any way they can. Among Katriel’s major efforts, supported equally by all members of his family, are attempts to compare Israel with apartheid South Africa in order to promote worldwide divestment making a false comparison with what was a genuinely racist South African regime back in the 1980’s."

University of Haifa - Yuval Yonay (Dept. of Sociology) is upset about "Racism" at his own university (from Segel Plus chat List)

"(Original spelling, uncorrected) Yonay: 'Attached is a disturbing story from yesterday (sic) local newspaper. It might serve a model in fascist classes how to use use (sic) half truths, straight lies, fears and demagogy to foster polarization and hatred. Arab students (who, for the authors, are all muslims (sic), as all Hadah (sic) supporters are) dare to be visible; they are threatening because they put Che Gavara (sic) on their shirts; they are politically active -- what a cynical exploit (sic) of democracy. They can demonstrate everywhere and whenever they want (in reality, they can demonstrate for 2 hours every week, on Mondays and Wednesday, 11:45-12:15 and 13:45-14:15). It is also their fault that there are no dukhanim of Jewish organization. In short, you don't have to learn fascism to talk like Gobbles (sic). I hope our spokeperson (sic) do (sic) something about it.' Yuval"

University of Haifa - Micah Leshem (Dept. of Psychology) - Malignant Anti-Israel Ignorance, by Dr. Gary Katz

'With all due respect, Leshem's 'Israel's right to be racist' was an abject hate-filled diatribe of poorly written and researched slogans, a pure symptom of the lack of accountability, upholding of academic standards, and pathology that permeates Israeli academia. Not only was any semblance of objectivity or decency not present, but also it betrayed much more about the pathology of the Israeli extreme-left than it did about anything having to do with our daily reality in Israel. When it comes to Israel-bashing it is a worldwide free ride with no risk, accountability or need to back up the filth spewed; all with the falsification that the haters are taking great risks and exhibiting unparalleled courage by joining the world-wide "hate Israel" sideshow."'

University of Haifa -  About Benjamin Beit-Hallahmi's (Dept of Psychology) book "The Israeli Connection: Whom Israel Arms and Why"

This book has examined the connections first of radical Zionism, and second, of the form in which it penetrated the state, with the Nazis and other groups of fascist tendency links that will surely surprise most readers. We've also stressed the important links between certain radical circles in the Israeli administration and post-war fascists. During the Cold War, dictators and juntas all over the globe gladly established close, yet often highly confidential, working relationships with certain circles in the Israeli administration.

That these circles influential in the Israeli administration support fascist regimes and organizations worldwide is established in detail by Israeli writer Benjamin Beit-Hallahmi. According to his book The Israeli Connection: Whom Israel Arms and Why, Israel has insured the "stability" by supporting oppressive regimes all over the world.

Ilan Pappe Invents 'Ethnic cleansing in Palestine'

In his recently released book The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, Pappe claims that Israel prepared a special plan for the ethnic cleansing of Palestine's Arab population known as Plan D for dalet. Pappe's "evidence" is derived from his interpretations of files found in the Hagana and Israel state archives...But Pappe makes one egregious mistake. He never bothers to ask the same question of the Arabs he does of the Jews: What about their lists, their intelligence reports and their ethnic-cleansing plans? What were Arab intentions in the five months between the passage of the UN partition plan on November 29, 1947, and the birth of Israel?

llan Pappe's "New History"

Pappe outlines Plan D (Dalet in Hebrew), which followed earlier plans A, B and C, and included forcible expulsion of some 800,000 Palestinians from both urban and rural areas with the objective of creating by any means necessary an exclusive Jewish state without an Arab presence. The methods ranged from a campaign of disinformation -- “get out immediately because the Jews are on their way to kill you” -- to Jewish militia attacks to terrorize the Palestinians.

... There is no doubt in Pappe’s mind that Plan D “was a clear-cut case of an ethnic cleansing operation, regarded under international law today as a crime against humanity.”

Ilan Pappe on the "Electronic Intifada" Web Site

Like those enlightened pundits who used liberal organs in the United Kingdom, such as The Guardian, to explain to us at length how dangerous is the proposed academic boycott on Israel. They have never expended so much time, energy or words on the occupation itself as they did in the service of the ethnic cleansing of Palestine. UNISON, Britain’s large public service trade union, must not be deterred by this backlash and it should follow these brave academics who endorsed the debate on the boycott, as should Europe as a whole: not only for the sake of Palestine and Israel, but also if it wishes to bring a closure to the Holocaust chapter in its history.

... To its credit one should openly say that the means used by Hamas are part of an arsenal that enabled it in the past to be the only active force that at least tried to stop the total destruction of Palestine

The Hamas is Alive and Well at the University of Haifa

A Fund run by the Islamic Movement student group linked to Hamas, says terror expert

"Jewish students and other elements at (Haifa) University are protesting the rising Islamification on campus. They say Islamist rhetoric can be found across the institution," Yedioth Haifa reported last Friday. .."There was also a diary handed out by the Islamic Movement here with pictures of Bin Laden, the burning Trade Towers, and Hassan Nasrallah," Sa'ar Ziv, the student's union spokesperson, told Ynetnews

Title from Haifa weekly - 'Islam Extends its Influence in the University'

More than 80% of the students in Israeli higher-education system are Jewish… this fact is not felt on the Haifan campus… Students complain that extreme Arab students distribute materials on the verge of incitement/vilification ['hasata'; in fact, students need to submit everything they distribute—even an invitation to an academic event—for approval by the Dean of students Office; sometime distribution is delayed because there is no one who knows Arabic available]. .''

... Unfortunately the university encourages this in the name of the freedom of speech, but it verges on cynical exploitation. With their shirts carrying the images of Azmi Bishara and Che Guevara they seem like soldiers on the eve of a battle [the similarity of what the anonymous official and the anonymous student said throws doubt on the authenticity of both cited quotes]....We often hear from students, employees, and even [the supposed to be leftist Palestinian sympathizers] that they feel as if the University of Haifa were a branch of Bir Zeit (Palestinian college).'

University of Haifa - Yuval Yonay (Dept. of Sociology) and In-Classroom anti-Israel Indoctrination at the University of Haifa

The University of Haifa currently offers a propaganda indoctrination course based on one-sided propaganda being taught as "scholarship". It is in the Department of Sociology and is entitled "The Sociology of the Occupation". It is taught by an anti-Zionist lecturer who is probably the Hamas' second-favorite lecturer at the University of Haifa: Dr. Yuval Yonay. Yonay is a close collaborator with Ilan Pappe, including in promoting boycotts of Israel and "divestment". He helped to organize a series of "Nakba Days" at the University of Haifa with Pappe, in which Israelis were called upon to mourn the creation and very existence of their own country as a "catastrophe" (nakba, in Arabic).
