University of
Pittsburgh Medical Center: Dr. Naftali Kaminski Exercises his Lungs
against Israel

Dr.
Naftali Kaminski has come a long way since he earned his degree
in medicine at Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He studied and worked
at Sheba Hospital (Tal Hashomer) before leaving Israel for America
in 2002. In the US he devotes much of his time to bashing Israel.
Today he is
Associate Professor of Medicine, Pathology, Human Genetics and
Computational Biology, as well as the serving Director of both the
Dorothy P. & Richard P. Simmons Center for ILD (Lung Disease) and
the Lung, Blood and Vascular Center for Genomic Medicine at the
University of Pittsburgh. When not fixing lungs, he often speaks
publicly about the Middle East and his position is harshly
anti-Israel.
Kaminski
helped organize an anti-Israel event on March 19, 2003 at the Middle
East Forum of the University of Pittsburgh, sponsoring a distorted
retelling of anti-Jewish blood libels, this time through the film "Jenin,
Jenin." That propaganda film was directed by Israeli Arab
Mohammed Bakri, who has admitted publicly that his film is a
collection of lies. (Kaminski's Middle East Forum is not the same
one as Dr. Daniel Pipes' Middle East Forum in Philadelphia.) The
film is one of the most vicious pieces of anti-Israel propaganda
around.
The website
for Kaminski's group has carried almost every anti-Israel Jewish
extremist one could find. It has carried Bash-Israel propaganda
written by the anti-Israel Israeli "journalist" Amira Hass, the
neo-Nazi Holocaust Denier Israel Shamir, the arch hater of Zionism
Uri Avnery, and the head of the anti-Israel "Women in Black" Gila
Svirsky. The site also carried calls to Israelis to refuse to do
army service. It featured many radical academics calling for the
dismantling of the Jewish state or endorsing the Arab irredentist
goals.
Kaminski has
also signed petitions encouraging
refusal to serve in the IDF in Israel's defense. One petition in
particular stands out because it calls
on Israeli academics to use their positions and classrooms to
deter their students from serving in the IDF. Among other things,
the statement said: "Without an Israeli declaration of an end to
the occupation, accompanied by appropriate action–unilateral, if
necessary–the present war is not being fought for our home but for
the settlements beyond the green line and for the continued
oppression of another people. We hereby express our readiness to do
our best to help students who encounter academic, administrative or
economic difficulties as a result of their refusal to serve in the
territories. We call on the University community at large to support
them."
How
comfortable for Kaminski to sign such things from the safety of
Pittsburgh.
Kaminski did
an
interview on Pittsburgh Indymedia, an anti-Semitic "anarchist"
web site. There Kaminski explained how Israel's medical knowledge
could greatly improve the health standards of Gazans. But, he
continued, "Israel opened a mobile clinic 2 weeks ago that closed
soon because nobody showed up to use it. I could understand why:
you've been bombed, you're not going to play the p.r. game." So it
is all Israel's fault that Palestinian civilians are so cowed by the
terrorists that they fear making use of an Israeli health clinic!
The truth is
Palestinians did not go to the clinic because Hamas threatened to
murder them as collaborators with Israel. Kaminski prefers to blame
the Jews for using their military to protect themselves from the
Hamas!
In discussing
the Erez crossing between Israel and Gaza, Kaminski said, "So you
have the whole Erez crossing which used to be full with lots of
workers going into Israel and goods for Gaza not operating. Part of
this is a security concern… but it is basically "…the Siege"
according to Kaminski. So in the mind of the learned doctor, not
only do Palestinians have some sort of entitlement to work in
Israel, but that entitlement counts for MORE than and trumps the
right of Israeli Jews to remain breathing, not to be murdered by
suicide bombers!
