Hebrew University – Alon Harel (Dept of Law) heads
“Leftist-only” Conference
Well, the very
same Harel distributed an electronic call this past week for
academics to attend a "conference" on the Mount Scopus campus on
"Legal Aspects of Jewish Settlement in 'Sheikh Jarrah' and East
Jerusalem." 'Sheikh Jarrah' is the Arab name for the Simon the
Righteous neighborhood where the Left is attempting to prevent Jews
from moving in. Every single speaker at this "conference" is a
far-leftist. When the invitation reached Yoed Halbersberg, a PhD
student in law at the Hebrew University, he was offended by the fact
that the "conference" in the invitation included no non-leftists. So
he wrote the organizer, Harel, to ask him about the lack of any
philosophical diversity. Harel replied that the "conference" was
clearly meant to be a leftist-only event.

Yet another One-Sided Leftist
Indoctrination "Conference" at the Hebrew University

Makor Rishon January 15, 2010 carries an interesting news item
about the Hebrew University. Leftwing one-sided indoctrination
"conferences" take place there all the time. But now the organizer
of one rather uncharacteristically ADMITS
that it is a one-sided indoctrination "conference."
The story involves
a Far-Leftist law professor at Hebrew University, Alon Harel. He has
a long track record of
refusing to endorse freedom of speech for non-leftists and
routinely endorses the various leftist sacred cows. Naturally
he also defends those calling for a worldwide boycott of Israel
to force it to capitulate to Arab demands. He
also supports calls on Israeli soldiers to engage
in mutiny and imsurrection out of pro-Palestinian political
ideology, and has also referred to Israel as an "apartheid" regime.

When the
invitation reached Yoed Halbersberg, a PhD student in law at the

in the invitation included no non-leftists. So he wrote the
organizer, Harel, to ask him about the lack of any philosophical
diversity. Harel replied that the "conference" was clearly meant to
be a leftist-only event. Only leftist perspectives on the legal
issues would be permitted. That is because in the view of the
totalitarian Left there is only one permissible point of view.
So why exactly are
the heads of the Hebrew University turning over the campus to
indoctrination "conferences" in which only leftist opinions are
permitted?

Yoed Halbersberg said...
My name is Yoed Halbersberg, and since
my name appears here I would like to put things more accurately:
Prof. Alon Harel is not the organizer
of the said conference, but its chairman.
Prof. Harel expressly stated that right-wing students etc. are
invited and will be heard, as long as they express remarks on the
subject matter.
Furthermore, prof. Harel suggested that a right-wing conference on
that issue should be held . He specifically did not say that there
is only one permissible point of view. Quite the contrary.
Our political differences notwithstanding, I admire Prof. Alon Harel
as a great legal scholar and a brave supporter of democracy. My
correspondance with him was meant for faculty eyes only, between
friends, and should absolutely not be referred to as revealing any "letist
conspiracy" or indoctrination etc.
Anyway, you somehow got your facts somewhat wrong.
